Great news for NOBS:
Posted: Mon Sep 21, 2009 3:19 am Post subject: Midland gamefair
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just back from the Midland... It has been by far the best show this year and maybe the best show in the history of NOBs. We have had a stunning weekend the weather obviously helping we signed up so many new members of which the majority took out the NOBs insurance. The weekend was finished off with Ian Harford from countryman Fairs drawing the winning raffle ticket. For all of you that supported the raffle but were unlucky this year you will have another chance next year.
I would also just like to thank all our members for supporting us so well. During August and September we have had over 600 new members sign up, many of those have been referals from exsisting members. If we add to that the many renewals, then we have had an excellent couple of months.
We also signed up a few new shoots this weekend so we will have new offers of beating available soon, and also a new location for a beaters course. It is the first time we have been commisioned to go onto an exsisting shoot and train there beaters. As soon as we have a day arranged we will offer it to all members.
Midland over we will now start preparing for the last two shows for this year 10/11th Oct in Ipswich and the following weekend in Newark. NOBs will be running the scurries at both of these.

If I was an experienced beater at a shoot and NOBS arrived to instruct me how to do the job i had been doing for years then i would be rather tempted to tell that shoot where they could go!
If the shoot cannot get some beaters with experience already then one wonders just what sort of shoot and management exists already.
Most shoots have a core of beaters and need extras only when some are poorly or decide they are too decrepit to continue.
It is excellent that so many new members have joined NOBS and bought the insurance, the likelihood of a claim being made is increased and then all will see if concerns over the validity of the insurance are right or wrong.See Pigeon Watch Forum and The Hunting Life Forum, and comments thereon.
This will be one of the few occasions when i hope that I am not correct in worrying that beaters or pickers up receiving payment, in cash or kind, are not covered because NOBS insurance is for SPORT only.
Most shoot staff are covered by the shoots employers liability insurance anyway, the guns own insurance so making the NOBS insurance deal unecessary anyway.
To be fair, if you shoot or fish or participate in most countryside sports then the cover may be useful, but Foxgun Tom on The Hunting Life tells of a cheaper deal which also includes Personal Accident Cover - that may be of more use than the NOBS Policy.

No doubt due to my inherent dumbness I fail to see the relevance of this reply perhaps Brown Owl will enlighten us all.
Especially those NOBS members such as the Scottish Tosser, email address bouncing but as it was pubs-pubesmorelike@hotmail.com, hardly surprising!!
Still NOBS people, including their management and moderators and whatever high faluting title they use for themselves nowadays, have a severe sense of humour deficit in the majority of cases, and are mere amateurs at this game!!
Well they are all volunteers!!!
Seems that a cocker had the right comment to make on their stand at the MGF
"nice meeting you guys again
sorry about my cocker leaving a present , and my missus for disapearing with the poo bags"
Keep hearing a rumour about how NOBS funds were used to reimburse people who had arranged something with one of their officers. This cannot be true surely. _________________ NickCordery

Not the ladies shooting course which one of the RO's took payment for and skedaddled with the dosh. Allegedly.
Then NOBS reimbursed the aggrieved members from membership funds.
A quick trawl through the archives of the Northern Echo may enlighten those with interest in the matter and the report of the criminal trial which followed should be quite revealing.
Another well handled matter. _________________ What do you call an animal thats does not run away from or fight with its enemies???

So this rumour may be factual then?
Ill have a trawl through the Echo archives when i gets a minute.
Just as well NOBS accounts arent audited then!!!
But then its the Directors who certify that the accounts are exempt from Audit!!!
And those Directors arent accountable to those fee payers, miscalled members, but factually customers, and who have no say i the company's operation, who elects the CEO, Mods, ROs. local reps etc etc etc.
Every other contryside organisation to which I belong enables its members to have a say in its organisation and operation- EXCEPT NOBS.
Even SACS purports to harken to its members. _________________ NickCordery

I found this report:
Tuesday 2 September 2008
"A SHOOTING coach appeared in court today charged with the theft of thousands of pounds from a group of female shooting enthusiasts.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx admitted taking £5,250 from the Gynslingers Shooting Syndicate based in Barnard Castle, County Durham, between April 1 and June 30, 2007.
Newton Aycliffe magistrates heard that xxxxxxx had been acting as treasurer for the syndicate, made up of about six women.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx was due to be sentenced today but had failed to comply with the preparation of pre-sentence reports. "
Not an insignificant sum if the report is about the same situation referred to above.
I sincerely hope that it is not and that the rumour is just that, a rumour, however it does seem that some people know a lot more about this than us.
Of course a company can use its funds as it pleases, especially if it has no accountability to the people providing those funds.
