After years and years of people sending NOBS their favourite recipes for publication a brand spanking new book is at last available:-
The subject is er um, er "NOBS Guide to er um er um Picking Up" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The fact that their membership fees have been used to publish this tome rather than the much vaunted and promised Recipe Book, which numerically would appeal to more people, even to non NOBS, doesnt seem to have dawned on their management!
Statistically Beaters outnumber Pickers Up by at least 4 to 1 so why not a book for Beaters before one for Pickers Up?
Is it because Pickers Up sometimes are regarded as the elite of the shooting field?
Trying to attract more sales by appealing to an elitist section will hardly endear it to members!!
Please note that I consider all to be equal!

If anyone needs a book on How to Beat then they probably should not be out of the house without a nursemaid.
Its dead easy, dress warmly, keep in line, do as your told and don't let your dog bugger up the drives.
I am sure the shoot captain/head beater will put you right in about 10 seconds flat if you get it wrong.
There. Send me a fiver and your email address and I'll ignore you for two years then send you my book on how to be a "creative accountant".
Just dont be surprised if it is full of recipes. _________________ What do you call an animal thats does not run away from or fight with its enemies???

I think that the main portent of the Beaters Courses run by PuBS- FREE and on a REAL shoot day not £75 per head like NOBS (for a flimsy bit of paper saying you survived and only on a shoot on a non shoot day), and including some damn good food and drink(testimonials supplied if necessary)- will be to be courteous and respectful to the Keeper, listen to what he says, dont upset the Major (shoot owner)by not listening to his instructions, make sure you ply the picker up and head chef (MOI) with plenty of Port and ENJOY yourselves.
Cant comment on creative accountancy - no audit is required unless requested by members of NOBS, and that means the Board of Directors not the people paying their hard earned cash in the vain hope they will get beating, picking up or loading.
Sooner or later more and more people will realise that they can get more for FREE!! |

I definitely need a nursemaid at some shoots where I beat, always have found the uniforms a turn on!!!
Oops !! Now the secrets out!!
Please form an orderly queue - NO NOT AT THE EXIT!!
Trouble is at my age and with my phys Im less likely to get mouth to mouth resus, more likely a label tied to me big toe saying "do not resus".
And theyd probably leave me on the hill too - as one keeper declared "big fat bugger like you, id put a high seat up, you should be good for a month of luring charlie into range." |

Can't comment on the actual book as I haven't seen it but if you want to save yourself some money, you can buy this book WITHOUT the NOBS logo at a mere £11.87 at Tesco's
This is the link:

Not all can afford NOBS prices especially if you're volunteer

Oh No. Not THAT book. It's pretty dire. You can get a second hand Moxon off ebay for a tenner, now thats money well spent.
Mrs.Marple of the gundog world. Does it have a section on Knitting ???
